Let’s Get Real Moms Group: Beyond Baby & Me

  • Metta Yoga San Rafael 835 4th Street, Suite B San Rafael, CA 94901 USA (map)

Let’s be real: Motherhood is hard AF. Many of us are drowning on a good day. Moms are expected to “do it all,” and often with very little support. We are responsible for so many things and so many people. We need a space where we can set it all down. A space where we can be held, instead of always being the ones doing the holding. We need a community who gets it. We need other moms.

Welcome to Let’s Get Real Moms at Metta Mama. This group is a sacred space where you get to show up EXACTLY as you are. In fact, the messier the better!

For 6-weeks we will gather to explore a wide range of topics, each aimed to help you find more space, support, and self-compassion. Every session will begin with a grounding practice, such as meditation or breathwork. This will be followed by a conscious group check-in. We will then explore a variety of motherhood-specific topics through the lenses of yoga, mindfulness, and mental health.

All moms are welcome here, no matter what stage of motherhood you are in. We will be co-creating our very own mom council.

To preserve the intimacy of the group, enrollment space will be limited. Make sure to sign up ahead and get your spot!

Dates: 4/19, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/31. (skipping 5/24 for memorial day weekend)

Cost: $299 (10% off for Metta Yoga members applies automatically at checkout).

Scholarship info:

Self-care, wellness, yoga, and motherhood communities can often be spaces of underrepresentation and exclusion. Metta Yoga is committed to reimagining these systems and working towards equity. As part of our commitment to diversify our yoga and motherhood communities, we’re excited to award a full scholarship to a member of the BIPOC community who is interested in joining our Let's Get Real Moms Group with Sarah Ezrin program at Metta Mama, San Rafael starting 4/19/24.

Please fill out THIS FORM by 4/15. A recipient will be informed on Wednesday 4/17.

About the facilitator:

Sarah Ezrin is the award-winning author of The Yoga of Parenting, a well-respected yoga educator, and the mother to two young boys. She has nearly fifteen years experience of leading growth experiences and facilitating circles. Having faced mental health challenges her entire life, Sarah knows firsthand the healing power of groups. She is very much “in the thick of it” right now, so she co-created this group with Metta Mama to provide the support she herself still needs and craves. She’s honored to be by your side for this journey.

What students are saying:

“I’m so glad I took the leap of faith and joined this mom’s group. Sarah leads with refreshing authenticity and created an atmosphere that was nourishing, real, vulnerable, fun and insightful with zero judgement and pressure. I loved that each week had a theme for us to discuss but that there was also always room to share whatever we were going through that day. I feel a special connection with the women I met and look forward to the next session!”
- K. S. (mom of 2)

“This beautiful group came into my life in the exact moment when I needed it. It has been profound for me to meet these women, these mamas, to hear their stories, and witness their vulnerable wise selves. It has made me feel less alone. I have learned a great deal about the importance of self-care, not just as a word you throw out there, but as a daily action that can be weaved into the life you are already living. Sarah is warm, loving, deeply connected and has so much wisdom on this topic. I am so grateful to have been a part of this group.” S. Y.

Sessions details:

Session 1: Stress & Calm

  • Our nervous system is responsible for every single important function our body performs: immunity, mood, hormones, sleep, digestion, reproduction. Let’s learn more about what exactly it is, what it does, and how to optimize it for our individual needs.

  • There’s nothing healthier and sexier than a flexible nervous system. Unfortunately, Kimberly Ann Johnson says that most women would rather look good than feel good. Does that ring true for you?? Let’s figure out what you need to feel good.

Session 2: Mother’s bodies

  • Our bodies go through so many changes just within the season of motherhood, nevermind our entire lives as women. We can learn to embrace and get to know our changing body, rather than constantly coveting the bodies we once had.

  • Important note: This is not about body positivity! This is simply about practicing body acceptance and learning to quiet the noise of ‘bounce back’ culture.

Session 3: Relationships

  • Parenting isn’t just between you and your child. It occurs within family systems.

  • Whether you are co-parenting with a partner or navigating caring for your own ailing parent, we are always parenting and ______ (*insert family drama).

  • Let’s look at how to set healthy boundaries and get clear on what we are (and are not!) responsible for in our families.

Session 4: Cycles

  • From menstruation to motherhood to menopause, women journey through many different cycles in a single lifetime.

  • Let’s discuss how to honor these seasons energetically, so that we are maximizing our potency, rather than depleting ourselves.

  • One thing we can do right away that yoga teaches us, is to look to nature as a guide.

Session 5: Living with Intention

  • Forget the family or school calendars, let’s discover tiny things we can do each day to honor ourselves and find pause.

  • We will discuss the importance of rituals and ceremonies and the unfortunate absence of them in Western culture.

  • We will explore small, achievable intentions that we set each day to guide our mothering journey. P.S. This is not another to-do, we promise!

Session 6: Grief & Loss

  • If you’re a mother, you have experienced loss. This could be the loss of your previous self or more literally a pregnancy loss or loss of a child.

  • Let’s explore the labyrinthian paths of grief.

  • This includes learning how to hold space for ourselves when we’re still required to show up and hold space for others.
