Foundations of Spiritual Living: Balance and Unblock Your Root Chakra

Have you ever wanted to begin a yoga, meditation, and mindfulness practice as part of your healthy holistic lifestyle? Lay down your spiritual foundations, and begin your journey at the root chakra!

by Marisa Lavalette

Where is the root chakra?

The root chakra is located at the base of your spine between your sitting bones. The root chakra is associated with the health of your pelvic floor, perineum, legs, and feet.

What is the root chakra called in Sanskrit?

In Sanskrit, the root chakra is known as “muladhara.” “Mula” means “root,” so your attention to this chakra helps you to lay down the roots of your personal spiritual practice.

How do I know if my root chakra is out of balance or blocked?

People who face challenges with finances, family relationships, or home foundations may have blockages or imbalances at the root chakra.

What are some ways to unblock the root chakra?

Keep reading below for strategies on how to get your root chakra energy reverberating at the right frequency!

Balance your Root Chakra with Colors and Crystals

Looking to ease into spirituality and mindfulness gradually? Invite red, scarlet, and crimson colored clothing into your wardrobe along with gem stones such as garnet, ruby, and carnelian to nourish your root chakra.

Balance and Unblock your Root Chakra with Root Vegetable Recipes

The grounding nature of root vegetables is thought to balance the energy of the root chakra. Try Marisa’s original vegan, gluten-free recipe for Roasted Maple Beetroot Hummus:

Roasted Maple Beet Hummus Recipe

For the roasted beets:

  • 3 medium beets, peeled and chopped into cubes

  • 2 tbsp avocado oil

  • 1 tsp sea salt

For the hummus:

  • 1 can garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed

  • 2 tbsp tahini

  • juice from 1/2 lemon

  • 1 tsp maple syrup

  • dash of cinnamon

  • sea salt to taste

Instructions and serving:

Roast beets in oven at 400 degrees for 25-30 mins; stir halfway. Allow to cool, then combine roasted beets in food processor with your hummus mixture.

Serve with veggies like carrots, celery, radish, or fennel. You’ll have leftovers as a healthy snack you can reach for all throughout the week.
