Logo for Metta Mamma, a yoga community for new and expecting mothers.

Metta Mama is a Yoga Studio space dedicated to new and expecting moms and parents to gather and build a community rooted in yoga and mindfulness practices.

We offer prenatal and postnatal yoga, birth partner workshops, and supportive gatherings for every stage of motherhood.

  • Metta Mama is a yoga studio and community created to support women through every stage of the journey into motherhood from fertility and pregnancy to postpartum, parenting, and beyond. Rooted in compassion, science informed practices, and nervous system support, Metta Mama offers a safe, welcoming space where women can slow down, reconnect with their bodies, and feel truly supported.

We offer a wide range of classes including fertility yoga, prenatal yoga, labor prep yoga, postnatal yoga, baby wearing fitness, mom and tots yoga, family yoga, kids yoga, and teen yoga. Each class is intentionally designed to support the changing physical needs of the body by building strength, stability, mobility, and resilience while also regulating the nervous system to reduce stress and promote healing.

At Metta Mama, we understand that motherhood is not only a physical experience, but a deeply mental and emotional one. Our practices help calm the mind, ease anxiety, build confidence, and cultivate trust in your body’s innate wisdom. By supporting nervous system regulation, we help shift the body out of fight or flight and into a state where connection, growth, and healing can occur.

Beyond classes, Metta Mama offers workshops, events, and panel discussions that create space for education, honest conversation, and shared experience. We believe community is essential because no one is meant to navigate motherhood alone. Here, women are seen, heard, and supported at every stage of their female journey.

Metta Mama is more than a studio. It is a place to feel grounded, empowered, and deeply connected to yourself and to others.

  • Birth Prep Prenatal

    Wednesdays 6:45pm in San Rafael

Week by week, as your baby grows, come mentally and emotionally prepare for the ineffable journey that birth is. Each class is created in real time by the mothers in the room, voicing what they want and need—often ranging from relieving low back pain to easing heartburn--followed by breathwork techniques applicable to and supportive in each phase of labor and delivery. Then, while you open your hips and strengthen your deep core muscles, you'll practice different ways of meeting your contractions, empowering you to move through birth with more presence and power. The class includes self-massage and stress management techniques, and finishes with a meditation, giving you time and space to connect with your baby.

  • Release & Restore

    Wednesdays 8pm in San Rafael

This class serves as a weekly ritual for mothers to be nourished by the same love they pour into their families day in and day out. Through slow, somatic movement and pranayama (breathwork), we prioritize deep core strength and pelvic floor health while softening tension through self-massage, and finish with a meditation. May this class become a supportive place on your motherhood journey.

    Ashley Stachon

Ashley is our director of Metta Mama.

Meet yourself on the mat where you are at this very moment. This is a philosophy that deeply resonates with Ashley in both her practice and her teaching. In 2004, just out of college, she was initially attracted to the practice because of the handstands and splits, being a former competitive gymnast. Over the years, as she began to let the practice in, she realized the benefits of what she practiced on the mat, and the profound influence it had on her life off the mat. Ashley began teaching Vinyasa and Hatha classes in 2012, but found her true calling when she got pregnant with her daughter in 2016 and after studying under Kari Marble, started teaching prenatal and postnatal yoga. Passionate about guiding women through the transformative process of pregnancy and becoming a parent, Ashley teaches a strong, alignment based practice where mamas can connect more deeply to their own body through movement, breath, and mindfulness practices. Ashley strives to empower her students by teaching them about the changes that take place in their body during pregnancy and after giving birth. Now a mother of two, she knows the importance of creating a community of strong women that can support each other and she is honored to do that work at Metta Mama.

She's always delighted to share the spotify playlist so you can carry that yoga class feeling throughout your day. Yoga teaches us about the connection of all things, and reminds us that our thoughts, words and actions create ripples. When we practice surrendering and opening up our hearts, the world receives this peace. She completed her RYT-200 hour teacher training (Kula Collective) in 2017 and in 2022 she completed her perinatal certification (Bliss Baby Yoga). Learn more about Chelsea at www.cwyoga.com.

She was fortunate to spend 6 months studying classical yoga in India in her twenties and dove into the practice of Vipassana meditation at this time as well. She completed a 200 hour Dharma Yoga Teacher Training in 2001and began teaching shortly after. Weaving the contemplative practices of her Buddhist background into her yoga classes is a unique offering that Elizabeth is continually deepening. Since her initial teacher training she has studied yoga therapy, yin, restorative, and prenatal yoga as well as completing her 500 hour certification through Spirit Rock's Meditation and Yoga Mindfulness Training in 2015. Her 18 years as a bodyworker also informs her teaching and personal practice along with her work with women as a birth doula and educator.
